  1. God damned daughter

Historical evidence states that mermaids originated from around 1,000 BC. The origin of the mermaid is written in the form of an old manuscript originating from Assyrian culture. Archaeologists in the surrounding area say that the Assyrian community strongly believed that mermaids were princesses from the kingdom who were condemned by nature. The princess was condemned to be a mermaid for killing her own husband. The appearance of the princess is a half fish man, where the woman’s lower waist is shaped like a fish. The figure of the mermaid is exactly like the depiction that we often see in films or on television.

  1. A Broken Heart

This story also comes from the Assyrian community, but the version is different from the previous story. Once upon a time, there was a mother of Queen Assyria named Dewi Atargatis. This goddess fell in love with a shepherd. However, in the end, he died because of his love. He was embarrassed because he was found loving a shepherd, finally, he threw himself into the lake to change himself into a fish. However, because Dewi Atargatis has a very perfect beauty, she cannot change completely into fish. Only half of his lower body resembles fish, but his face remains beautiful like a goddess.

  1. Mermaid is the Sea Goddess Guard

The Greeks and Romans believed that mermaids were deliberately created by sea gods and goddesses, such as Poseidon, Neptune, and Triton. Gods and sea goddesses created mermaids as their bodyguards. Mermaids accompany and escort the journey of gods and goddesses while circling the sea. In fact, in Greek mythology, mermaids are not the only female but are male mermaids. That said, these sons and mermaids have quite high strength. Until now, the Greeks thought dugongs were sea guards. They intentionally drown ships loaded with bad people or illegal items.

  1. Damned Fishermen

The people of the cherry country choose different mystery versions of mermaids regarding the origin of mermaids. Once upon a time, there was a fisherman who followed Shinto beliefs. This fisherman binds his teacher’s promise that he will not eat animals. However, the fisherman reneged on his promise, he killed many animals for meat. In the end, the fisherman was condemned to become a half-fish monster living in the sea.

Until now, Shinto beliefs forbade followers to consume living things that are lifeless. If you are traveling to Japan, you can stop by the Shinto Temple in Fujinomiya. There, you can see evidence of mermaids through mummies of mermaids who reach 1,400 years old.

don’t imagine this mummy looks beautiful as a mermaid in a fairy tale. This mummy is more suitable to be called a mermaid ghost because it has a large head with a little hair, eyes, and mouth open, and her face looks spooky.

Evidence of Mermaid’s Presence True or not legends originating from these countries, there is some evidence that mermaids really do exist. That said, in the Cornwall area, England, there was a rock that had been occupied by mermaids.

The princess sat on the rock while singing. The song sung by the mermaid resulted in the death of a local fisherman. Song of a mermaid can make people captivated.

Because captivated and wanted to find the source of the beautiful sound, many people were killed by drowning. Therefore, singing from a mermaid has a very strong mystical power. In addition, the existence of a mermaid was also confirmed by a famous sailor, Christopher Colombus. In his journal, Columbus wrote that he had seen three mermaids crossing around the Caribbean waters.

Columbus, who was on his way to the Rio Del Oro, said that the mermaid’s face was not as beautiful as a painting, but it was true they had the appearance of a human. Colombus’ statement about the mermaid was quoted from The Diary of Christopher Colombus, January 9, 1493.
